That is quite a dilemma. My best suggestion is that your relative may have some test anxiety that is causing him problems during each examination attempt. It may be wise to recommend an evaluation for a testing disability. I believe the NAVLE has accommodations for such disabilities if he does have one. I am suspicious of this mostly because you said that he did best on the one for which he studied the least. He may over-think the questions and second guess himself. He probably has a good understanding of the material, but may find it difficult to answer test questions in a way which represents that. I would recommend having his testing style and ability evaluated before he spends more money on another NAVLE exam. For studying, I highly recommend that he take the practice exams that can be found on the NVBME website. He can then simulate a testing situation at home and see if it is the test that is the problem or the atmosphere.

I have a relative who passed vet school with average grades, but who has since taken the NAVLE 4 times, and missed passing by 2 - 4 points each time. One occasion he had almost no time to study (6 months after school, and scored his best score....He and all of us are frustrated ...he is capable, bright, and has multiple years of experience working in vet setting. We cannot figure out whats happening...can you help....We woudl be most grateful... Bob
